Pro Q Therapy

Trauma Therapy

Safe, steady trauma-focused therapy that helps you understand your past, regain balance, and rebuild confidence.

Trauma & PTSD Treatment

Trauma profoundly affects how you perceive yourself, others, and the world around you. If you’ve experienced abuse, violence, loss, accident, or other traumatic events and struggle with anxiety, hypervigilance, intrusive memories, or difficulty trusting others, trauma-informed therapy at ProQ Therapy provides compassionate, specialized support to help you heal and reclaim your sense of safety and wholeness.

Trauma-informed therapy is an approach grounded in deep understanding of how trauma affects the brain, nervous system, and overall wellbeing. Rather than asking “What’s wrong with you?” trauma-informed therapists ask “What happened to you?” – recognizing that many of your current struggles are adaptive responses to past harm. Trauma-informed therapy acknowledges that healing requires more than processing memories; it requires rebuilding a sense of safety, restoring control over your own body and mind, and reconnecting with yourself and others.

What makes trauma-informed therapy effective is its foundation in neuroscience combined with deep compassion and respect for your healing process. At ProQ Therapy, our trauma-informed therapists understand that trauma affects not just your mind but your entire nervous system, and they create treatment approaches that address this whole-person impact. We recognize that healing isn’t linear, that triggers can resurface, and that you may need to move at your own pace without judgment. Our therapists use various evidence-based techniques – including somatic work, mindfulness, cognitive processing, and bilateral stimulation – chosen specifically to support your unique healing journey.

Trauma-informed therapy through ProQ Therapy’s online platform offers significant advantages for trauma survivors. Online sessions allow you to receive support from a safe, familiar environment where you have maximum control over your surroundings. You can attend therapy in spaces where you feel grounded and secure, which is essential for nervous system regulation during trauma processing. The ability to pause sessions, take breaks, or adjust pacing becomes easier in an online setting, giving you more agency in your healing. Research demonstrates that online trauma-informed therapy is highly effective for PTSD, trauma recovery, anxiety, and rebuilding a sense of safety and wellbeing.

As therapy continues, you work together to understand your reactions, steady your emotions, and ease the stress responses that may be disrupting your daily life. Techniques are chosen to fit your needs and may help you reconnect with your body, reclaim a sense of control, and approach your past with more clarity and compassion. The pace stays in your hands, and your therapist checks in often to make sure the work feels manageable.

What You Can Expect from Our Trauma Treatment

Trauma can shape how you think, feel, and move through the world, often in ways that don’t make sense until someone helps you slow down and look at the patterns underneath. In trauma-informed therapy at ProQ Therapy, your therapist begins by creating a space that feels safe enough for your nervous system to settle. This safety makes it easier to explore difficult experiences without feeling overwhelmed.

How We Use a Trauma-Informed Approach to Support You

At ProQ Therapy, trauma-informed care is not a specific technique, but the foundation of everything we do. Our approach is built on safety, choice, and trustworthiness:

  • Prioritizing Safety and Stabilization – We prioritize establishing physical and emotional safety before diving into deep work. We work with you to create a therapy environment where you feel secure, grounded, and ready to engage at your own pace.
  • Restoring Choice and Control – Trauma often involves a loss of power, so our therapy focuses on giving that power back to you. We emphasize your right to choose what we discuss, how fast we go, and when we need to pause, ensuring you are always in the driver’s seat.
  • Somatic Awareness – Since trauma lives in the body, we help you tune into physical sensations and cues. We teach you to track your nervous system’s responses, helping you release stored tension and regulate “fight, flight, or freeze” reactions.
  • Pacing and Titration – We believe in “titration” – tackling difficult memories in small, manageable pieces rather than all at once. This prevents you from becoming overwhelmed and ensures that processing happens only when you have the resources to handle it.
  • Building a Collaborative Relationship – Healing happens in the context of a safe relationship. We view ourselves as partners on your journey, working with you rather than doing therapy to you, fostering a connection built on transparency and mutual respect.

Our goal is to tailor treatment to your unique needs, combining these proven approaches to help you develop lasting coping strategies and find relief from the symptoms that are holding you back.

Struggles We Can Work Through Together

Trauma affects everyone differently, but a trauma-informed approach is essential for anyone whose past experiences are disrupting their present life. We use this framework to treat:

Complex Trauma (C-PTSD)

Unlike a single event, complex trauma creates deep wounds from prolonged exposure to neglect, abuse, or instability, often in childhood. We help you untangle the web of long-term survival strategies and rebuild a coherent sense of self that isn't defined by what happened to you.

Hyperarousal and Anxiety

When your nervous system gets stuck in "on" mode, you might feel irritable, jumpy, or unable to sleep. We help you signal safety to your brain, allowing your body to come down from chronic high alert and find rest.

Dissociation and Numbing

Sometimes the only way to survive is to "check out" or feel nothing at all. We gently help you reconnect with your emotions and your body, reducing the need to dissociate by increasing your capacity to tolerate feelings safely.

Attachment and Relationship Wounds

Trauma can make trusting others feel dangerous, leading to isolation or volatile relationships. We provide a corrective emotional experience where you can learn that connection can be safe, consistent, and supportive.

How Trauma-Informed Therapy Will Transform Your Life

Engaging in Trauma-Informed Therapy at ProQ Therapy is about reclaiming your life from the shadows of the past. Here is how this approach helps you:

  • Moving from Reactivity to Regulation You will learn to recognize your triggers and soothe your nervous system before you spiral. Instead of being hijacked by emotional flashbacks, you will gain the tools to stay grounded in the present moment.
  • Developing Self-Compassion Shame is a heavy byproduct of trauma. We help you shift your internal dialogue from self-blame (“Why am I like this?”) to self-compassion (“It makes sense that I reacted this way to survive”), which is a powerful catalyst for healing.
  • Reclaiming Your Body For many trauma survivors, the body feels like an enemy or a stranger. Through our work, you will learn to befriend your body again, feeling safe in your own skin and capable of experiencing pleasure and relaxation.
  • Restoring a Sense of Agency The ultimate goal is for you to feel in charge of your own life again. You will leave therapy with a renewed sense of personal power, able to set boundaries, make choices that serve you, and pursue a future that isn’t dictated by your past.

The Life You Can Build Beyond Trauma

Trauma can leave you feeling cut off from your sense of safety, making it hard to trust others or even your own reactions. That’s why healing begins with a relationship where your voice is heard and your pace is respected. At ProQ Therapy, we see trauma therapy as a shared process. You bring your lived experience, your strength, and your understanding of what you’ve survived. We bring clinical skill, steady guidance, and a commitment to helping you feel safer in your body and your daily life.

Instead of taking a top down approach, we work with you to shape the direction of therapy. Through open conversation and ongoing check ins, we create a plan that fits your needs and honors the impact trauma has had on your nervous system. This may include building tools to regulate overwhelming emotions, exploring difficult memories when you feel ready, and restoring the sense of control that trauma often disrupts. Your goals lead the work, and your therapist adjusts the pace so the process stays manageable rather than overwhelming.

Through trauma therapy at ProQ Therapy, you may begin to:

  • Regain a sense of safety in your body and environment
  • build steadier emotional regulation skills
  • reduce the intensity of triggers and trauma responses
  • reconnect with parts of yourself that felt lost or shut down
  • trust your own instincts and boundaries again
  • feel more grounded, stable, and in control of your daily life

This collaborative approach may help you create a foundation of safety that supports long term healing and meaningful change. If you’re ready to explore trauma therapy with someone who listens closely and works alongside you, we’re here to help.
